She was definitely a uniquely, lovely character 😊 Probably fuelled by having tea running through her veins! Do you have a favourite cake (or biscuit) to go with a brew - whether that's tea or coffee? x
I’m definitely more of a tea person, and cake wise really depends on the day. I go through phases. I do love coffee in my cake though…ideally a coffee and walnut cake, although preferably without a lot of sugary icing x
Hi from South Australia where I have also started scrunching the baking paper! Earl Grey or Chamomile tea for me but by the looks of things I may need to try some Yorkshire tea soon!
Hey Nasreen! How are you finding the scrunch method? It’s definitely much easier, isn’t it. Yes to the EG and chamomile, especially with a drop of honey 🍯 Let me know if you try a Yorkshire Tea, I’m interested to see what you think 😊
I may have grown up in the US but I love my Yorkshire Gold. And loose is all the better! Interestingly, I find that coffee cake always tastes better with tea, rather than coffee (well, mot things do, expect maybe biscotti). Lovely post - I forgot about that WM- hack, thanks for reminding me , so useful. Tales...is great watch. I just wish I also had a gardener to help make my garden look a bit more like his, ha-ha.
Thank you, Lisa 😊 Hope you're having a great day! That's so true about coffee tea, isn't it! I do like coffee, but it does go so much better with tea. And you're welcome! I'll be sure to share another golden nuggets of his as I try them - there are so many. (He does have garden-goals, doesn't he!)
Oh you’ll be very much at home with us northerners in the UK. I’m pretty sure most of us bleed tea! I’m so glad you commented because I know your Substack is one I’m going to love 😊
Tea! It is so sad that the US doesn’t have the proper love of tea. I have never felt more at home than when I was over in London and had such an array of teas available to choose from at breakfast. I’m a fan of earl gray personally, but it must be the sort with perfectly balanced bergamot; too much and it’s just too floral.
Your carrot cake recipe looks delightful and it’s my favorite sort of cake, so I will have to try it out.
Hey Liz 😊 It *is* sad that the US doesn’t have a proper love of tea! Wouldn’t it be great if people came round with pots of tea, as well as the standard coffee. I’m surprised cafe’s here don’t do that to be fair 🤔
Earl grey is definitely a top 3 choice. Along with chai and Yorkshire Tea!
Oo please do let me know if you try it 😊 I blitzed my carrot but grated will give a more traditional texture. Listen to me talking like I know what I’m doing!
Marvellous! And i like that Marcus Waring trick v much…I’m definitely a scruncher!
Thanks Mark 😊 It’s a great trick isn’t it - I’ve recently started watching Tales From a Kitchen Garden and it’s blowing my mind!
Also, glad you’ve endorsed the scrunching method, it’s so much easier.
I love that memory of your Grandma. Getting up in the night for tea, now that is dedication! My mouth is watering reading these, and its 5am!x

I think I’m living in the wrong country! I’m surrounded by coffee drinkers but am an avid tea drinker and writer.

I hope so! I just subscribed to yours.
Yorkshire tea here too. Love carrot cake and lemon drizzle 🍋
You just can’t beat a Yorkshire tea, can you. Lemon drizzle is a solid choice! Might have to add that one to the list this week 🤔
